PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The RIPPLEFFECT Winter Intensive is a multi-day program designed for evolving mid-career choreographers interested in diving deeper into their craft, and dancers ages 15+ interested in professional development, quality training, and performance opportunities.
Our Winter Intensive is an accelerated version of our Summer Academy geared towards mid-career movement makers with an established practice who are looking for space to re-invigorate, explore, and expand.
Choreographers interested in applying to the full choreographic intensive- where you engage in both theoretical and practical classes on composition, choreography, and dance making as well as physical practice classes with the mentors - can apply for either the Stage or Film Tracks. Stage track participants focus on creating work for the stage, while the Film track participants focus on the choreographic elements of creating screen-based choreographic work.
Dancers interested in training with the mentors, being cast in the works of the Choreographic Apprentices, and participating in the mentor-led creation need not apply and can register directly through the links below.

THE BREAKDOWN
Auditions + Rehearsals | January 3rd:
Day 1 entails an audition held by the choreographic apprentices to cast their pieces from the pool of dancers, as well as a rehearsal for the mentor-led stage piece and a rehearsal slot for the choreographic apprentices.
Classes + Rehearsals | January 4th-7th:
Days 2-5 consist of a mentor-led rehearsal, apprentice rehearsals, classes with the mentors, and feedback sessions. These include physical practice classes as well as focus groups which can be practical, theoretical, or a mix there of.
Final Day + Showcase | January 8th:
On the final day of the intensive, the works created during the last 4 days will be presented to a public facing audience alongside a Q&A from the mentors.

STAGE TRACK
The STAGE Track focuses on expanding your creative voice in regards to making live dance work (stage, site-specific, immersive, etc.) Over the duration of the intensive, the RIPPLEFFECT mentors offer insight into their own creative movement practices as well as input on your working processes in rehearsals.
The work you make is a work-in-progress, and can be shown at whatever stage in which you desire. You will have access to a lighting grid and costume closet if you wish to utilize these production elements, but it is not necessary that you do.
You will receive professional footage from the showcase to use for your own accord. You will receive at least two camera angles for your piece and a multi-cam edit of your work.
FILM TRACK
The FILM Track is focused on choreographers and movement-makers creating choreography specifically for/with/of the camera. Those who apply for this apprentice-ship must have a basic knowledge of cameras and editing software with a desire to deepen and expand your personal screendance practice.
Participants must provide their own camera and preferred equipment. If you would like for us to provide equipment (Camera, lenses, tripod) for you- this will incur an extra cost.
Similarly to the Stage track, your final work can be as polished or bare as you wish. You may explore a formal question resulting in multiple versions of the same query, seek to produce a fully formed narrative, excavate one thematic or production element within your practice, etc. The endeavor is process, not product.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Over the 6 days of the intensive, those participating in the Dancer Track will engage in an audition process, rehearsals, classes with the mentors, feedback sessions, and a final showcase performance (and/or film performance).
Dancers can register for a Full or Partial package. Those who register for the Full Dancer Track have access to 16 classes with the mentors, will audition and be cast in one of the apprentice works (stage or film), and will have the opportunity to be a part of the Mentor-led stage work alongside the choreographic apprentices.
Those who register for the Partial Dancer Track will have access to 9 mentor classes and will audition and be cast in one of the apprentices works (stage or film).
Those interested in being a dancer need only to register for the event. An application for this track is not necessary.
Single drop-in classes will be available once the schedule is released. Dancers choosing to do drop-in classes will not be able to audition or perform in the apprentice pieces or the mentor piece.

THE BREAKDOWN
Audition + Rehearsal | January 3:
The morning of Day 1 will consist of an audition held by the Choreographic Apprentices for their respective pieces.
After casting, dancers will begin rehearsals for the mentor piece (Full track only) and their apprentice works.
Creation & Expanded Practice | January 4-7:
Each day will entail a mix of rehearsals, classes, and feedback sessions. Classes range from heels technique with Soraya Lundy, contemporary forms and groove with Destini Rogers, compositional play with Teddy Tedholm, stage choreography with Candace Brown, embodied camera practice with Cailin Manning, and more! The NEW focus groups offer insight into different elements of working professionally as a choreographer/dancer as well as expanding artistic practices.
Showcase & Reception | January 8:
On the final day of the intensive, you will participate in the final public facing showcase with a Q&A from the mentors.
Mentor-led STAGE Creation
As part of the Artistic Development phase, participants of the Winter Intensive (except for those doing the partial dancer track) will have the opportunity to learn directly under a selection of our Mentors in creation of a stage work which will be shared during the final showcase.
Through this process you are exposed to the intimate setting of creation and collaborative ways of working in which our Mentors operate, offering insight and perspective into how you may wish to conduct yourself and your practice during your Creation Phase.
