SUMMER

CHOREOGRAPHIC ACADEMY

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The RIPPLEFFECT Summer Choreographic Academy & Dance Intensive is a multi-day program designed for choreographers at any stage in their career interested in creating dance for the stage or the screen, and dancers interested in professional development, quality training, and performance opportunities.

Our two week Summer Academy offers in-depth practice and training geared towards early career makers, but is open, accessible, and encouraged for movement makers at any stage. Participants will engage in 6 days of Artistic Development, 5 days of Creation & Expanded Practice, and a Final Showcase.

During the Artistic Development stage, participants in the Choreographic Academy engage in both physical and theoretical classes with the mentors exploring new concepts, approaches, and practices to impart into their own. With mentors whose work spans across both the commercial and concert realms, participants are offered a highly diverse curriculum in both movement and creative practice. During this time we also offer professional development in the way of speaking about your work, conveying your ideas, and bringing your ideas to life.

The Creation & Expanded Practice stage is where the choreographic apprentices dive into the creative process with their dancers chosen from an audition held after the first 5 day academy. During this time, choreographic apprentices and dancers will engage in movement classes with the mentors, focus groups, rehearsals, and feedback sessions.

The Final Showcase is a public facing event for the Nashville community where you will present your works in progress with feedback from the Mentors. Stage apprentices will have access to a professional lighting grid and the costume closet if they wish. Film apprentices will have their works screened alongside the live works.

Mentor-led Film Creation

As part of the Artistic Development phase, participants of the Summer Academy will have the opportunity to learn directly under a selection of our Mentors led by Cailin Manning in creation of a screendance work which will be shared during the final showcase.

Through this process you are exposed to the intimate setting of creation and collaborative ways of working in which our Mentors operate, offering insight and perspective into how you may wish to conduct yourself and your practice during your Creation Phase.
